This FireWire audio interface features numerous inputs and outputs, both analog and digital. Four combo jacks (XLR/jack) with phantom and gain controls are provided on the front. In addition, two headphone jacks are present, which can also serve as monitors. The Fireface 802 has a switching power supply, which operates at voltages from 100 to 240 volts. Integrated are short-circuit protection and a line filter. Audio professionals will find this model excellent. Thus, an AES/EBU in/out is present, over which samplers up to 192 kHz are possible. In addition, two 8-channel ADAT in/outs are provided. This can be used to connect, for example, two additional AD/DA converters, external effects equipment or mixing consoles. The second ADAT connection can also be used as an optical SPDIF I/O, for even more connection options. All digital ADAT channels can be used simultaneously with the analog channels. For integration and mutual synchronization, the Word Clock in/out (plus remote output) and the MIDI in/out can also be used. Connecting to computers can be done via FireWire 400 and 800 and also via USB 2.0. Custom firmware is available for both Windows and Mac for the greatest possible stability and low latency.
