De PMD661 kunt u net als de andere portable recorders van Marantz makkelijk meenemen. Deze recorder neemt op een hogere sample en bit-rate (24-bit/96kHz) op, waardoor u nog meer kwaliteit uit de opname's haalt. U kunt gebruik maken van de ingebouwde microfoon of een andere ingang om een opnamen te maken. Er zitten zowel analoge als digitale ingangen op. Met de ingebouwde stereo-luidsprekers kunt u direct de opname terug beluisteren.
